Detailed description
Wind, rain or snow – our shell products are built to handle it all. Penguin uses Dermizax® by Toray Japan, a leading manufacturer of high-performance technical fabrics. Thanks to Dermizax® technology, the pants remain waterproof and highly breathable, even in demanding conditions.
Our 3-layer Dermizax® line was developed for deep powder days. The fabric offers an optimal balance of durability, breathability and waterproof protection.
For best performance, the pants should be worn with functional base layers and insulation layers that can be adapted to changing weather conditions and activity levels.
The pants feature a removable bib for added versatility. The relaxed fit provides maximum freedom of movement for freeriding, ski touring and telemark skiing. At the leg openings, durable Cordura edge protection in a matching colour helps protect against wear and tear.

Dermizax® It is a hydrophilic and non-porous functional membrane developed by the Japanese company Toray. Simply put, it is a water-loving film without holes that is responsible for ensuring the waterproofness and breathability of the clothing. When you sweat, the moisture inside the garment increases. The hydrophilic membrane then attracts this moisture and transports it outward, where it evaporates. Inside the clothing, a comfortable and dry condition is maintained. The newly developed QWR impregnation makes the outer fabric even more water-repellent than conventional DWR impregnations.
WASHING
You can wash our shell products at 40 degrees, turned inside out, on a gentle cycle—preferably without spinning. We recommend using a mild liquid detergent and rinsing twice if possible to ensure no detergent residue remains in the fabric. Do not use fabric softener or bleach, as these can impair the waterproofness (of the outer fabric) and affect the color. This means you can use your regular detergent as long as it meets these requirements. Alternatively, you can use special detergents for membrane clothing available from specialty retailers. Before washing, close all zippers.
WASH-FREQUENCY
Wash your shell product according to use and the degree of soiling. As a guideline, we recommend 1–2 times per season.
REACTIVATING OR RENEWING THE WATER-REPELLENT COATING
1. Hang your shell product up to dry after washing, preferably in the shade. 2. Reactivate the existing water-repellent coating with heat (iron or tumble dryer at max. 100 °C / 212 °F). 3. Using an iron is the gentlest method for the fabric. Place a kitchen towel between the iron and the garment as protection. 4. Check the functionality after reactivation by sprinkling water on the product. 5. If the water no longer beads up and dark, wet spots appear, it’s time to renew the coating. 6. Reapply water-repellent coating to the shell product using a spray. We recommend Toko or Nikwax.

SERVICE
If all of this sounds too complicated, you can also send us your shell product, and we’ll provide a professional washing and reproofing service — for the DWR (Durable Water Repellency). All our membrane products are treated on the outer fabric (surface) with a polymer coating known in the industry as DWR. When the product is new, this treatment ensures that the outer fabric repels water and dirt. With use, the effect of the polymer treatment diminishes, especially in exposed areas such as the seat, knees, or shoulders. Don’t worry — the product will remain waterproof, as the membrane itself is responsible for keeping it watertight.
